Whenever I'm abroad I try and catch a games. Much easier with mates than with my wife, but she's coke as well as a compromise.

DC United play at RFK. On one side is where the 'whites' go, and it's like a tea party. The other side is full of Hispanics, pandemonium, loads of drums and you can drink there.
The place would be a morgue without that lot.

west to see Boca Juniors v Sao Paolo in the first leg of the Recopa Sudamericana in 2006, great stadium and atmos. Some bloke cureld out a perfectly formed emoji style shit right in front of me on the stairs up to your seat, will stay with me for a while.
On the same trip I saw flamengo v fluminese at the Maracana which was a bit of a 0-0 bore fest, but they brought beers to your seat, which was nice.

Melbourne Victor v Sydney FC
Alessandro Del Piero and Richard Garcia up front for Sydney.
Terrible standard of football, even at 37 Del Piero was a country mile better than anyone else on the pitch.
Garcia still as shit as ever

Only two, ages ago.
Inter vs Roma was one of the most boring matches I've been to - two teams with marvellous players managed to both be much less than the sum of their parts.
PSG vs Lens was an exciting affair until PSG scored, and then Lens seemed to try to protect a 1-0 loss - unsuccessfully, as they ended up losing 2-0.
I think their manager was Sam Allèrdaise

Marseille v Valencienne, a few years back. I wore my 60s West Ham top with zero problems; as most of you know the ultras stand behind the goal has several West Ham flags and banners.
It was a bit of a shit match, 1-0. What was most memorable was it was the first time the two teams had played since the match fixing scandal that got both clubs into so much shit.
The only other thing of note was a player for Marseille who I thought was very decent and would have loved us to have signed, but he was destined for slightly bigger things. It was a young Nasri, who soon after signed for the gooners.
Other than that, Vålerenga v Lillestrøm, which is almost an Oslo derby, if you could imagine a London FC playing a Basildon FC kind of thing.
I'm not big on non-West Ham matches, to be honest.

I went to watch Kusadasi play Izmir when I was in Turkey. A proper local Derby.
My attention was drawn to the game by the early morning scuffles on the beach. A few of the visiting supporters (Izmir) were minding their own business and they were set upon by the locals.
The bloke who owned the sunbeds told me where the ground was and what time the kick off was, with a not too subtle warning that there would be a fair amount of trouble in the town that afternoon.
The match was played on a red-ochre pitch with a 10-fence around the playing area. Exactly the same as the pitch I played on in Hackney when I was growing up, imagine a pitch on an inner city estate.
All the locals were friendly enough to me, but any semblance of crowd segregation soon broke down and it was clear what was jovial banter between supporters would soon turn something different.
I left at 0-2 to Izmir. By this time there was a considerable amount of unabated violence, luckily the police were on hand – to join in, with their help the fight went the way of the home team’s supporters.
Strangely both team played in white shirts, one team with red shorts and socks and the other with blue shorts and socks.

Ajax V Rangers champions league.
I've also been to a Melbourne Victory A-league game (my boy was a mascot through his football club) one of the worst 90 minutes of my life, boring game and plastic wannabee fans.

Barcelona v espanyol, 5-1 Espanyol went 1-0 up, then Messi took change and bagged a hattrick.
2015-16
FC St.Pauli v Fortuna Dusseldorf, 4-0 Lennart Thy scored a hattrick for FC St.Pauli.
2016-17
FC St.Pauli v Hannover 96 0-0

I've done De Kuip at Feijenoord which had a fantastic atmosphere. Real working class lads that sung their hearts out thru the match.
Also went to see PSV at the Philips Stadion a couple of times, which is probably the most comfortable stadium I've ever been in. Heaters for those cold winters' nights and the hospitality venue, which was quite literally half a stand, turned into a night club the moment the football finished!
However, the most fun I've ever had at a non-West Ham venue was visiting The Marshal Józef Piłsudski Stadium in Krakow to see Cracovia play. It was fuckin mental! Tear gas, riot police, pitch invasions and fighting on the terrace. Old skool.

I've been to numerous Sporting Kansas City games.
I normally sit in the CAULDRON which is a terraced stand behind one of the goals. You can drink beer in there and the Mexicans make it a fantastic atmosphere.
